Eating Metabolic Foods May Help You Slim Down

Eating metabolic foods could be the answer for anyone who wants to lose weight, eat carbs and burn fat at the same time. But what are metabolic foods and how do you lose fat by eating them?

If there’s anything I know after years of trying every single weight loss recipes program that I can get my hands on, eating the right foods is essential to losing weight. You can spend 3 hours a day lifting weights and running on the treadmill but it’s not going to make a difference in your weight if you don’t deal with what you are putting in your mouth first.

Unfortunately, I’ve always had a problem staying on diets because most weight loss diet plans include boring and bland foods. I guess boring and bland means you won’t eat as much and therefore, you will lose weight by default? In my case, and for people who are like me, it’s important that a nutrition plan be as delicious as it is healthy otherwise you’re just going to gain the weight back once you start eating normally again.

So I stumbled on the Metabolic Cooking plan totally by accident.  I was looking for a program that my husband and I could do together. I’m going to be 50 early next year and he’s already in his 50’s. We’re both overweight and we need to do something about eating too much of the wrong foods. So I found this program online and I think we’re going to give it a try because it combines good tasting food with the ingredients that will optimize fat loss.

What does this diet nutrition plan have that other dieting cookbooks don’t have? Well, for starters, all the recipes contain metabolic thermo-charged ingredients; i.e. “how many calories your body will burn just by breaking down the nutrients each time you consume a certain food.”

Here’s how eating to burn fat would work: choose your favorite protein, chicken, fish or lean red meat. Then add spices like ginger, garlic, lemon, cayenne, basil, parsley, or thyme that will all boost your metabolism while making your taste buds sing! Or you can add apple cider vinegar, or Dijon mustard which also have metabolism boosting properties and can be quite tasty in the right recipe.

These are just examples. You really need to get the cookbook to find out the right amounts of these spices and cooking instructions to make this diet recipes program work for you.

Miracle Berry and Low Carb Diets

Eating the Miracle Berry before eating your meals is one way to succeed on a low carb diet. For me, I found that part of the problem with low carb diets in general is that you have to eat a lot of vegetables and salads. Many people enjoy eating that kind of food but for those who have a sweet tooth like me, it’s difficult to eat foods that are generally pretty bland and tasteless. So the Miracle Berry is here to help you get a taste for healthy foods like broccoli and lettuce.

For people who’ve never heard of the miracle berry before, it’s a fruit with the scientific name of Synsepalum dulcificum. It’s found in West Africa and once you chew on it and let it sit on your tongue for a few seconds, it will trick your taste buds so that what you eat will taste sweet and sweet things will taste even sweeter.  A French explorer discovered it in the late 18th century but it didn’t come to the U.S. until the 1960′s by a botanist who saw commercial potential in this fruit. Scientists isolated the protein in this berry and called it Miraculin. It works by binding to the taste receptors in your mouth and rewiring them to signal “sweet” to your brain instead of sour whenever you eat.

I first heard about it on the Dr. Oz show where members of the audience chewed on the berry and swished it around their mouth until it covered their taste buds. Then they sampled foods like lemons and vinegar to see how they would taste. They reported that everything tasted sweeter, including the white vinegar!

It’s possible to buy Miracle Berry online but these berries have a very short shelf life of about 2 days so unless you can find them locally, it may cost a little extra in shipping to get it to you in time. It’s important to make sure you are getting the real thing since there are many imitators out there. Check your ingredients and look for the scientific name, Synsepalum dulcificum. The berry, effects lasts for about an hour in your mouth. And you only have to eat one to experience the results you are looking for.

The Miracle Berry sounds like it would be a perfect sugar substitute, right? Unfortunately, the FDA ruled in the 1970′s that it could not be used commerciallyto sweeten foods. Instead, foodies and bartenders have built a cult following for the Miracle Berry because they use it as an ingredient in cocktails and entrees. There are even “flavor-tripping” events in larger cities where people eat the berries and sample different foods to experience their taste under the influence of the berry.

Eiro Research is Closed ! Update: Eiro Brands Coming in March 2011

I just got the news this morning in my email box. EIRO Research has closed. Here’s the letter that was posted on the Eiro Research website:

I feel very sad for the people who were involved with Eiro Research. I liked and used most of their products, including their Energy drink and Eiro PUR which you can read all about on this blog.

The letter states that the company’s products are going to be sold to another company so that’s good news for those who’ve come to know and rely on them for good health. I hope whichever company ends up with the products will be able to market them profitably.

I don’t know what happened but I can tell you that the Lose Weight Eat Carbs blog won’t be closing anytime soon. I’ll continue to share any information that I come across about losing weight with resistant starch foods.

And I want to send my best wishes to all the former distributors of Eiro Research products.

Update: Eiro Brands will be offering their products at a discounted price sometime in March 2011. The company that has bought up the remaining inventory of Eiro Research products such as the shake, supplements, skincare and energy drink will be offering new pricing and a health coaching program. Stay tuned to see what’s coming next !

New Resistant Starch Pasta Recipe

This new resistant starch recipe uses Hi-maize as an ingredient. That’s the resistant starch part! The rest of the recipe is also low fat and low sodium for a very healthy dinner with 10 grams of fiber per serving.

A lot of people have trouble finding Hi-maize in their grocery store. I’ve found it myself through King Arthur Flour.

Fettucine with Low Fat Low Sodium Carbonara Sauce

Ingredients

1 tablespoon (20ml) olive oil
1 onion, sliced thin
3.5 ounces of low fat, low sodium ham, thinly shredded
2 cups of mushrooms, thinly sliced
1/4 cup plain flour
1 1/2 cups low fat milk or soy/rice milk
2 tablespoons Hi maize
1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil
1 lb fettucine, cooked and kept warm

Instructions
In a large saucepan, heat the oil and cook the onion and ham until the onion is tender. Add the mushrooms and continue to cook until moisture has evaporated. Gradually add the flour and stir gently to combine. Add the milk and continue to cook until the sauce is boiling, while stirring constantly. Add the Hi-maize, basil and serve over cooked fettucine.

Eiro Pur Prebiotics Probiotics Formula

I finally tried Eiro Pur, the “prebiotic and probiotic in one” product created by Eiro Research. Not only does it detox your body, it help you lose weight because of it’s ability to help you feel full before eating your meal. It does this by creating an environment in your gut that is healthy for digestion.

How does it work? Well, a probiotic is healthy bacteria in your gut that helps you eliminate waste. The prebiotic is the “food” that the probiotic eats to fuel its job of creating a healthy environment in your digestive system.

Research studies have revealed that thin people have a balance of prebiotic and probiotics in their body. So this product is meant to restore that balance for people who are overweight or obese.

True, if you are eating the right foods, this balance should happen naturally. But it’s really hard to restore it after years of eating the wrong things. This is designed to help people restore that balance quickly and lose the weight while getting back into a healthy eating regimen.

So I finally tried it yesterday and I must say, I was shocked when I mixed the product into some water. It turned the water green! I thought to myself, “oh, this is going to taste awful!” You see, I’ve consumed “green drinks” before that are, quite possibly, the most vile concoctions you’d ever want to ingest!

But I wanted to see how it would work so I held my breath and took a swig. And was pleasantly surprised to find that it didn’t taste bad at all! No gritty texture and bitter taste like I’ve experienced with other green drinks. In fact, it was kind of tasteless. But I had 12 ounces to drink so as I continued to drink it down, I noticed it had a pleasant taste that reminded me of tonic water but sweeter and it had a bit of a fizz to it.

I noticed it’s affect on my appetite as well. I had cooked steak au poivre for dinner with asparagus and a side of steak fries and I can say that I ate only half of my normal portion size.

I think you can probably use this product on it’s own without the Eiro Lean or Eiro Burn but I’m interested to see how it will all work together. Stay tuned to see how that all works out.

And the Secret Ingredient is….Resistant Starch!

I just love science especially when they come up with tasty carbohydrate foods that help you lose weight! I’m talking about muffins and cookies and brownies, too! The secret ingredient in high fiber baked goods that you may have seen in some stores is hi maize flour. Resistant starch is found naturally in many foods but it can be processed into an ingredient that can be added into other foods.

Hi-maize is the registered trademark for a high fiber flour which contains  resistant starch. Manufacturing companies can put this ingredient into their foods without changing the flavor or texture of the food and it has many benefits for those trying to lose weight. You would never even know that resistant starch is in your favorite baked good recipe because it’s tasteless. Read More
